Open from May to October, the Sleeping Bear Point Maritime Museum displays exhibits on the US Coast Guard, Great Lakes shipping history and the US Life-Saving Service. Everyday during the summer months, US Life-Saving Service rescue techniques are re-enacted.
Preserving more than 100 years of Empire history and culture, the Empire Area Museum was founded in the early 1970s. The museum is made up of the main building, a one-room schoolhouse, the 1911 Hose House, an old gas station and much more. The museum is open mainly in the summer months, but group tours are conducted in the off-season by appointment.
